What’s in Iligan that makes it unique from the rest? What’s in Iligan that people can experience? What’s in Iligan that makes it worthy to be chosen as the place to be? Why Iligan?

Iligan City is formerly known as the “Industrialized City of the South”. But, as we all know, a huge dilemma has struck Iligan City thus, losing this title and is now known as the “City of Beauty and Bounty” and the “City of Waterfalls”. Despite this fall, Iligan was able to find a way to rise from the ashes. It made use of the beauty hidden in the city.

One places and the things that have proved Iligan worthy to be chosen is its ever famous Maria Cristina. It did not just helped the city in terms of tourism but it supplies the life of the city. It is the source of electricity in Iligan City. A hydroelectric powerplant. Iligan have Tinago falls in which it is really “tinago” or hidden since you need to pass by the 500 steps staircase before you can see this hidden beauty. It would sure be worth-it since once you reach it, you can find yourself in awe with its beauty that soothes your soul. It also have Mimbalot falls and 20 other waterfalls. Iligan also have Timoga where pools are flowing and clean. Iligan also have Paseo de Santiago where the place is magnificent and serene to have a simple outing.

Iligan also has Cheding’s Peanuts, the ever famous delicacy that can only be found in Iligan City. Iligan also have the most famous sukang pinakurat. These delicacies are delicious and one of the tourist’s must have during a vacation here in Iligan.

Iligan is not just rich in tourist spots, but is also rich in culture. Iligan is composed of tri-people living in it, Muslims, Christians and Lumads. It is composed of people with different culture but are united and living in harmony.

PASEO DE SANTIAGO

A place for relaxation, dates, and outings!

Paseo de Santiago is located in Barangay Santiago. It is one of the few places in Iligan which is famous for its landsacpe design. A lot of people come in Paseo to relax, and there are a lot of couples who go there for dates because of the beauty in the surroundings which is also located near the shoreline of Barangay Santiago, Iligan City. The following are the landscape designs inside Paseo de Santiago.

Philippine Map and Landmark

The Philippine Map and landmark is one of the attraction in Paseo de Santiago. It can be easily spotted as it is located near the shoreline that people can pass by. The landmark in the back of the Philippine Map is a famous selfie spot because the shore can be seen at the back and the people love to take a picture with the landmark itself.

Iligan City landmark
iligan City landmark on Valentines Day

The Iligan City landmark is also a famous selfie spot just like the Philippines landmark because the sunset is at that part and every special holidays the design is changing, just like the design during the Valentines Day. A lot of people take a picture at that part for memories about their bonding in Paseo de Santiago.

Seas Side Benches

Sea side benches are put up there for a more serene location especially when couples decide to take a break from walking inside Paseo. People can take a good look at the horizon especially during sunset when the sun kissed the ocean, and the people can relax listening to the waves and the sound of nature.

Gazebo

Gazebos are also made for family and friends to have a private table all for themselves. Aside from that other tables are put up surrounding the center part of Paseo for people to have a comfortable sightseeing while eating the foods served in different stores in the canteen.

Live Band at Night!
Paseo de Santiago at Night!

Finally, Paseo de Santiago will not be a as special without the live band in the evening where people can have fun jamming to the music and just seeing the breathtaking view of the night lights in the place. A lot of people went to Paseo especially during evening because great bands in Iligan showcase their talents and the people love to just go out at night.

Aside from those areas, there are also other things Paseo has to offer like bicycle riding which is P50 an hour, a playground for kids, and a Kalesa ride in the evening. Paseo opens in the morning and has an entrance fee of P10 until 3:00 pm, eyond that the entrance fee will be at P20 because a lot of people come to Paseo at the afternoon to watch the sunset until evening.

As an Iliganon, I’ve been to Paseo and I honestly like the place because of its beauty and the serenity of the place even if there are a lot of people maybe because I like the ocean view, and just seeing the sunset in the afternoon makes me feel so relaxed. I recommend this place especially if you go outing with friends, families, or even your boyfriend/girlfriend. My friends also like to go to Paseo and relax, play, listen to the music, and most especially taking pictures because the place gives you a good vibe.

With my niece and cousins.
With my friends!
Bicycle riding to complete my day!
LOVING PASEO!

H O M E

A life in a small city,
Where we can see the beauty,
Beauty of the wonder
That Iligan City has to offer.

City of Majestic water falls,
City that is for all.
Maria Cristina that is our source,
A beauty in nature we never have to force

City full of falls,
A story to each untold.
A nature’s legend,
Where it will never come to an end

The people of Iligan,
Who always unite as one.
The City that we always come back to,
A place where we call home.

Even after so long,
We always find a way to go home.
The place of our birth,
The one we always look for.

“The City of Majestic Waterfalls”

Iligan City is known as the “City of Majestic Waterfalls”. Why? From one look at those waterfalls you can be drawn by its beauty and how it still existed as majestic and beautiful it was before and even throughout the years that a lot of calamities passed in Iligan City. Iiligan also has a total of 20 waterfalls located in some areas of the city. Its picturesque view can make you calm and relax; and even though it takes a while to reach the falls you will feel recharged once you get to see how clear the waters are and how beautiful the sound of the waterfalls, and the nature brewing. The waterfalls doesn’t just help with tourism but it literally supply the economy of Iligan City as one of the falls is the source of hydroelectricity that power the industry of the whole Iligan City.

Power to Life

Maria Cristina Falls: Source of Hydroelectricity to give life to the City

Maria Cristina Falls is located at Misamis Oriental – Maria Cristina Boundary Rd, Iligan City, Lanao del Norte. In the suburbs of Iligan City lies the Philippines’ second-highest waterfall, the Maria Cristina Falls. This waterfall is fed by the River Agus and is found on Mindanao Island. It is often used as a landmark, or representation, of the host city – Iligan . Geographically, the waterfall is located about 9.3km southwest of Iligan City proper, and is bounded by Ditucalan, Buru-un and Barangay Maria Cristina. Falling 98 metres, it serves as the main source of power for the industries situated in and around the city. The National Power Corporation of Philippines is responsible for the operation of Agus VI hydroelectric plant, which constitutes one of the multiple projects that harness the Agus River, and also helps in the production of 70% of Mindanao’s electricity, besides supplying power to Iligan City. The plant, with a potential capacity of 200MW, harnesses electricity and power by utilizing 130 cubic meters of flowing water, every second.

Iligan City may not be as popular and as industrious as other cities in Mindanao or even the Philippines, but it also has something to offer that is never found in others. The waterfalls are not just something worth visiting, but the people living here, us Iliganons also strive hard to make our City bountiful in any way. We always make sure to create a difference, and show appreciation to everything we have because this is our home, the place we grew up, and the place that will always be a part of our lives.

“A very wise quote is a spectacular waterfall. When you see it, you feel its power!”
